Alison Helzer started playing tenor banjo at age ten. She was a founding member of the Celtic band, Tonn Nua and toured the Western States with them from 2004-2009. In the summer of 2009, she performed in Ireland with County Mayo musician Gerry Carthy. Alison began playing classical music on the tenor guitar in 2008. She has a special fondness for J.S. Bach and Turlough O'Carolan. Her Celtic influences include Gerry O'Connor, Gerry Carthy, Angelina Carberry, Kieran Hanrahan, Michael Black, Sean Tyrrell, Dave Corey and the bands Lunasa, Danu. Solas, Altan, Molly's Revenge, The Duhks and many more.
